The term
paludal deposits has been introduced to define a Holocene unit mainly made up of peat (Lam, 1989).
Regarding "functional group" strategy and environmental exploration, omnivorous/granivorous birds exploring borders of disturbed environments (14.4%, n =18) were predominant, followed by small carnivorous explorers of borders and disturbed environments (13.6%, n =16) and large carnivorous explorers of paludal environments (12.8%, n = 14).
The results of the present study also indicate that part of the avifauna is associated to the paludal environment, demonstrating its importance both for food acquirement and for resting of birds during migratory route.
Geological, hydrogeological, geophysical and pedological data strongly indicate that there is groundwater flow from a thermal aquifer contributing to the genesis of the
paludal environment of the Prats de Sant Sebastia.
The Suwannee River Valley, where samples were collected, encompasses communities mapped under Southeastern Coastal Plain Ecosystems and further subdivided as Upland Pine Forests, Upland Hardwood Forests, Alluvial Wetlands and
Paludal Wetlands.
Bud DeWitt's Swamp Omelet doesn't take its name from any
paludal odor, texture, or appearance.
The area is currently covered by
paludal forest, whereas its middle part is occupied by an openpit field resulting from the tufa excavation in the 1970s-1990s.
