Alternative nutrition
A provitamin for certain bacteria which is used to produce folic acid, a sulphonamide antagonist; some alternative healthcare providers regard PABA as a vitamin, and suggest its use in treating bipolar (manic depressive) disorder. PABA deficiency does not exist in humans, as it is not a required dietary component.
