NHS Atlas of Variation in Healthcare

NHS Atlas of Variation in Healthcare

A tool published in 2010 by the Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention Programme (QIPPP), which consists of a series of maps that graphically display differences in healthcare in different primary care trusts (PCTs) in England, including A&E admissions, frequency of bariatric surgery, diabetes, etc. The Department of Health views awareness of disparities in care provision as a first step towards addressing unwarranted variation, because if variation is not objectified, the debate about whether it is unwarranted cannot occur.
