TOKYO - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sent Friday a message of condolences to Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo over the victims killed in the recent typhoon-triggered
mudflows.
The viscosity of the
mudflow would have been about that of SAE 40 motor oil, he said.
Officials earlier said Sunday's massive
mudflow in Zhouqu was largely the result of a record rainfall that dumped 97 millimeters of rain in a matter of 40 minutes on the normally arid region, which sees less than 200 mm of annual rainfall on average.

These individuals are threatened from
mudflow, lahar and other volcanic debris.
