thioridazine

A typical piperidine antipsychotic used for short-term management of depression with anxiety. Thioridazine decreases excitement, hypermotility, affective tension, and agitation by psychomotor inhibition. High doses are discouraged, given the concerns relating to cardiotoxicity and retinopathy.
 
Adverse effects
Drowsiness, pseudoparkinsonism, extrapyramidal symptoms, nocturnal confusion, hyperactivity, lethargy, psychotic reactions, restlessness, headache, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, nasal congestion, galactorrhoea, breast engorgement, amenorrhoea, ejaculation inhibition, peripheral oedema.

Why should a depressed boy be started on Mellaril (thioridazine)?
adequately informed it of the potential prejudicial effects of Mellaril,
Nevada, which upheld the claim of a criminal defendant that the compulsory administration of mellaril during his trial rendered his conviction invalid.
On the other hand some might argue that, without the Mellaril, the resident's behaviors would have been completely unmanageable.
