(how'ărd),
an obsolete test in which a differential ureteral catheterization is performed by the insertion of bilateral ureteral catheters to measure simultaneous urinary volume and sodium concentration in patients with suspected renovascular hypertension.

Howard test

An obsolete test designed to study the ability of each kidney to concentrate sodium after bilateral ureteral catheterisation; a fall of 40% of urine volume coupled with either a 15% drop in urinary sodium and/or a 50% increase in creatinine was regarded as indicative of renal ischaemia.
