A drug that is believed to be nonaddictive and less damaging to the health than a hard drug.

soft drug

Substance abuse Any illicit drug popularly perceived to have a relatively low abuse potential; for some, marijuana is viewed as an SD, heroin a a hard drug, and cocaine in the middle. Cf Hard drug.
