A condition linked to eclampsia or severe pre-eclampsia, which is characterised by the acronym HELLP:
Hemolysis
Elevated Liver function tests
Low Platelets
Eclampsia may transiently worsen after delivery; other symptoms include blood pressure 160 systolic and/or 110 diastolic, urinary volume 400 mL/24 hours, nonspecific cerebral abnormalities, pulmonary edema, cyanosis
Lab Proteinuria 5 g/24 hours, schistocytes (RBCs sheared and fragmented by intravascular fibrin deposition), increased LFTs (ALA, AST, ALT, BR) increased PT; aPTT, normal fibrinogen levels

Obstetrics A condition linked to eclampsia or severe pre-eclampsia, characterized by the acronym: Hemolysis, Elevated Liver function tests, Low Platelets, which may transiently worsen after delivery; other Sx include BP ≥ 160 systolic and/or 110 diastolic, urinary volume ≤ 400 mL/24 hrs, nonspecific cerebral abnormalities, pulmonary edema, cyanosis Lab Proteinuria ≥ 5 g/24 hrs, schistocytes–RBCs sheared and fragmented by intravascular fibrin deposition, ↑ LFTs–ALA, AST, ALT, BR, ↑ PT; aPTT, normal fibrinogen levels.
