A
gatekeeping approach to gender-affirming care is founded on the idea that hormonal therapy may be harmful to patients--either directly, through the biological and chemical consequences of such treatment, or because of the 'social risks', or the fear that patients will regret their decision to pursue medical transition.
Additionally, we combine this approach with exploiting variation in the regional provision of
gatekeeping in an instrumental variable (IV) framework.
