gastroenterostomy
A surgical operation for DUODENAL ULCER in which the normal outlet of the stomach into the DUODENUM is closed off and a side-to-side junction (anastomosis) made between the stomach and the beginning of the small intestine. This effectively bypasses the duodenum, keeping stomach acid away from it and allowing the ulcer to heal.Collins Dictionary of Medicine © Robert M. Youngson 2004, 2005
