Ependymomas including myxopapillary ependymomas also showed positive staining, mainly in ependymal rosettes. Oligodendrogliomas also showed positivity for GFAP, but in ring-like pattern around nucleus.
Identifying the presence of perivascular pseudorosettes or true ependymal rosettes is instrumental in the diagnosis.
No ependymal rosettes, tumor necrosis, or vascular endothelial proliferation is present.
Ependymomas are characteristically marked by the formation of perivascular pseudorosettes and true ependymal rosettes. Ependymomas stain readily with glial fibrillary acidic protein antibody and do not demonstrate evidence of neuronal differentiation.
