Our research results show a close relationship of
ependyma condition with the degree of hydration of ventricular wall and the presence of hemorrhage within it.
In this case, the
ependyma is reconstituted by the transformation of the ependymal cells into nonepithelial mesenchymal cells, which proliferate from both edges of the lesion to bridge the gap, then transform back into epithelial cells, while axons regenerate to make functional synapses.
found that Nestin-stained or BrdU-labeled cells were mainly located in the basal ganglion and nearby SVZ around hematoma and
ependyma after ICH in rats.
Few thin linear subcortical hyperintensities were also observed extending medially upto the
ependyma of the lateral ventricle (Fig.11).
NiV antigen was identified in meningeal endothelial cells of 5 ferrets; in 3 of these 5 ferrets, it was found in the choroid plexus (Figure 6, panel A),
ependyma (Figure 6, panel B), parenchymal vascular endothelium, and adjacent neurons and glia, consistent with hematogenous spread.
Immature neuroepithelium should be distinguished from mature
ependyma, a relatively common finding in mature teratomas.
Pathologically there is brown discoloration of the leptomeninges of the cerebellum (especially the vermis), basal frontal lobe, olfactory bulb, temporal cortex, brainstem, cranial nerves, spinal cord, nerve roots,
ependyma and subpial tissue of < 3 mm deep.
Sodium ions are actively transported across the epithelia of the choroid plexus and
ependyma in the production of CSF, with secondary active transport of chloride and water because of electrical and osmotic gradients.
In order to rule out structural abnormalities MRI brain was done which showed a uniform grey matter lined cleft extending from pial surface of the cerebral mantle upto the ventricular
ependyma.
A major loss of
ependyma was evident; a moderate to severe mononuclear choroiditis was also present.
