modulus of elasticity

The ratio of a force applied to a material to the increment of change (e.g. increase in length; angular deformation) in that material. Materials with low modulus of elasticity are less resistant to stress, while materials with high modulus of elasticity resist stress and hold their shape better. The SI unit of modulus of elasticity E is the pascal (Pa). Examples: the modulus of elasticity of a PMMA contact lens is about 3000 MPa, it is around 0.4 to 1.5 MPa for silicone hydrogel lenses and 0.3 to 0.5 MPa for hydrogel lenses. Syn. coefficient of elasticity; Young's modulus of elasticity.

At the two-week checkpoint, both yield strength and elastic modulus for all three groups of PDO increased and reached similar levels regardless of initial PDO annealing conditions.
The modulus provides information on how a material will respond to an applied stress, and we have already shown that the elastic modulus is quantitatively comparable to the modulus that we traditionally measure.
The elastic modulus of specimens Il3, which has 18 mm of interlocking length, was 55% lower compared to the normal ones.
The Payne effect can be quantified by comparing the magnitudes of the elastic modulus for each strain sweep at the same strain amplitude.
Let the elastic modulus of oil shale and the compressive strength before pyrolysis be E and [sigma], respectively.
The relationship between fracture conductivity and elastic modulus of coal rock is obtained, as shown in Figure 9.
The elastic modulus of FRP reinforcement was designed for considering the different types of FRP reinforcements manufactured with different fibers, such as glass fiber, aramid fiber, basalt fiber, and carbon fiber.
Figure 22 shows curves of missile velocity at different elastic modulus of the surface layer, from which it can be seen that the curves are almost identical, and the maximum velocities are all 26.60 m/s; the effect of Young's modulus on average velocity and the final velocity can be seen from Table 3, illustrating that the elastic modulus of the concrete surface layer of the field floor has no effect on the missile's velocity when leaving the canister.
(1) When the elastic modulus E < [E.sub.1], it increases successively.
In these tests, the elastic modulus is determined from the resonant frequency of the system using a vibration test (Targa, Ballarin, & Biaggioni, 2005, Segundinho, Cossolino, Pereira, & Junior, 2012).
