Dithranol can be used in different type of alopecia areata as contact irritant.
On the other hand,
dithranol should be used with caution due to potential irritation.
Other types of topical treatments include keratolytics, calcipotriol, calcipotriol with betamethasone dipropionate, and
dithranol (Table 2).
Other antiplaque topical medications include salicylic acid,
dithranol and calcipotrol.
Other options available for limited patchy AA are potent topical corticosteroids,
dithranol and minoxidil lotion.
In general, initial treatment of psoriasis involves application of a topical medicine, which could be a steroid preparation, retinoid (synthetic vitamin A),
dithranol, calcipotriol (a vitamin D analog), anthralin, or coal tar.
Further 5 [micro]L of SLJO sample was mixed with 20 [micro]L of
dithranol matrix and MALDI-MS study was done on AB SCIEX TOF/TOF 5800.
MALDI-TOF mass spectra were obtained using a MICROFLEX LT (Bruker) with
dithranol (DHB) or trans-2-[3-(4-tert-Butylphenyl)-2-methyl-2-propenylidene]malononitrile (DCTB) as matrix.
Many therapeutic modalities are available for the treatment of Psoriasis both topical and systemic including salicylic acid, corticosteroids, tar,
dithranol and ultraviolet B (UVB), and systemic agents like photochemotherapyretinoids, methotrexate and cyclosporine.4 The choice of therapy is determined by many factors, like age, sex, site, severity and duration of disease and general health of the patient.
Concurrent pharmacotherapies could include: emollients, corticosteroids, vitamin D3 analogues, tazarotene, coal tar,
dithranol, methotrexate (MTX), cyclosporine, retinoids, fumarates and/or biological agents.
CsA and
dithranol used concurrently produce benefits in a subset of patients described by Gottlieb et al.
