Desulfotomaculum

(dē-sŭl'fō-tō-mak'yū-lŭm),
A genus of rod-shaped (straight or curved), anaerobic, chemoorganotrophic motile bacteria that stain gram-negative but have gram-positive cell walls. Found in soil, the rumen and elsewhere. The type species is Desulfotomaculum nigrificans.

That is not to say that future Mars landers should arrive with life- detection equipment tuned to zero in on species of Desulfovibrio or Desulfotomaculum.
