[de-hi″dro-ret´ĭ-nal] the aldehyde of dehydroretinol, derived from the visual pigment porphyropsin, found in fresh-water fishes and certain vertebrates and amphibians; its metabolic role is analogous to that of rhodopsin in other animals.
