Of the three major manufacturers of DVD recorders, Philips uses
DVD+RW; Panasonic picked DVD Ram and Pioneer prefers DVD-RW.

DVD+RW Alliance is a voluntary group of over 50 industry-leading personal computing manufacturers, optical storage and electronics manufacturers including Dell, HP, MCC/Verbatim, Philips Electronics, Ricoh Company Ltd., Sony Corporation, Thomson multimedia and Yamaha Corporation.
Both of the new DVD200s combine
DVD+RW and DVD+R in order to allow users the option of rewriting a DVD many times or writing just once to ensure that the data is not recorded over.
There are three competing re-recordable DVD formats currently available: DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, and
DVD+RW.
The 810 series of DVD burners also features 4X DVD-R DL, 16X DVD+/-R, 8X
DVD+RW, 6X DVD-RW, 48X CD-R and 32X CD-RW recording.
Disc formats supported include DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R,
DVD+RW and CD-RW.
The new models include the first desktop PC with a
DVD+RW drive priced under $900.
