The number of conceptacles per crust, either intact or eroded, was not significantly different among treatments (ANOVA, intact: [F.sub.2] = 0.29, P = 0.74; eroded: [F.sub.2] = 0.15, P = 0.86, Fig 6A, Table 4).
We did not count the number of spores within the conceptacles; however, the presence of healthy, reproductive structures suggests that the alga is able to produce spores with potential to settle and recruit onto the experimental panels, as suggested for a number of macroalgal species (Santelices, 1990).
