(kŏ-mish'ŭn) A German federal study set up to analyze and make consistent the contents of herbals and to analyze and approve the use of these herbals medicinally. No such research has been done on anything like a similar scale in the United States. The monographs of this commission have been translated into English, providing clinical proof about the efficacy and safety (or lack thereof) of the herbals and botanicals that were considered.
