Commission for Social Care Inspection

A UK body established under the Health and Social Care Act 2003, which became operational in 2004. It incorporated the work of the former Social Services Inspectorate (SSI), the SSI/Audit Commission Joint Review Team and the National Care Standards Commission (NCSC). During its 5-year lifespan, it was the independent inspectorate for all social care services in England. The CSCI, the Healthcare Commission and the Mental Health Act Commission were replaced by the Care Quality Commission in 2009.
