which is the adiabatic gradient at the stellar surface, where k is the Boltzmann constant, G the gravitational constant, M the mass of the star, R the radius of the star, [m.sub.p] the mass of a gas molecule.
For the forthcoming redefinition of the kelvin in the International System of Units (SI), an exact numerical value for the Boltzmann constant k in units of joules per kelvin will be selected to relate the thermodynamic temperature T to energy E using the relation E = kT.
