Black Membrane

Some manufacturers propose that a black membrane lowers heating costs by more than any penalty for added cooling costs, which is also a potentially misleading claim.
White or light-colored roof membranes have become more prevalent, since they have a higher reflectance than black membranes and consequently absorb less heat.
Similar results have been reported by Wilkins and Kearney in a study that deposited DNA onto black membranes and then stained the membranes with ethidium bromide (11).
Winters were not long enough or cold enough to cause problems and any moisture that did migrate upwards was driven downwards due to the extreme temperatures the black membranes would get to-above 180[degrees]F (82[degrees]C).
