There are many types of HAs and glues, such as gelatine matrix thrombin tissue sealant (FloSeal; Baxter Healthcare, Deerfield, IL, USA), fibrin glue (Tisseel; Baxter), bovine serum albumin-based adhesive (
BioGlue; CryoLife, Keeensaw, GA, USA), and cyanoacrylate glue (Glubran; General Enterprise Marketing, Viareggio, Lucca, Italy).
Harvard University scientists have created a socalled
bioglue, based on the mucus secreted by slugs which, they claim, is very strong and sticks even in very moist situations.
The increase was driven by strong revenue growth from JOTEC, On-X and
BioGlue.

CryoLife, Inc, Atlanta, GA, announced that its
BioGlue Surgical Adhesive has received Shonin approval from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) for use in the repair of aortic dissections.
With the help of micro-manipulation technique, the researchers measured the force needed to overcome the
bioglue adhesion, and showed that dried biofilm stuck 20-times more tightly than fresh biofilm.
