The Bimaran casket is important because it preserves one of the oldest known images of the Buddha.
The Museum has a fine collection of relics and reliquaries, including probably the most famous and widely discussed Buddhist reliquary, that from
Bimaran.
Two exceptions are the famous
Bimaran casket found with coins of late 1st century AD in a stupa west of Jalalabad (figure N), and the Ahinposh casket found in a stupa north of Hadda.
