beta adrenergic receptor kinase

A membrane-bound serine/threonine intracellular kinase which phosphorylates hormone receptors, turning off the signalling pathway initiated by the hormone-G protein-ligand coupling. -ARK down-regulates/desensitises cells to sensory, neurotransmitter and hormonal stimulation, mediating stimulatory effects of catecholamines on the adenylyl cyclase system and, by extension, regulating intracellular cAMP levels. The -ARK gene sequence is similar to protein kinase C and cAMP-dependent protein kinase
