The finding of increase in neutrophils count, accompanied by rise in immature
band cells in buffaloes impending PRD is supported by Mateus et al.
Routinely completed laboratory findings which may signify the need for heightened nursing surveillance include hyperglycemia, increased liver function tests, leukocytosis, leukopenia, normal WBC with more than 10%
band cells, coagulation abnormalities (e.g., thrombocytopenia and increased D-dimer), and hyperbilirubinemia.
Complete blood count revealed a white cell count of 8.3 X 10[.sup.9]/L (8.3 X 10[.sup.9] /[micro]l) with .89 segmented neutrophils and.01
band cells. Results of chemical analysis of the blood were within normal limits.
Schilling also developed a reporting format in which increases in the more immature
band cells were noted on the report sheet to the left of the segmented neutrophils.
