azo dye

A group of dyes produced from amino compounds by diazotisation and coupling of the reactants; the reactions are a function of the number groups in the molecule.

Uses
Plastics, rubber and in the cattle industry; the carcinogenicity of these substances is related to the ortho-hydroxylated metabolites complexed with sulphates and glucuronic acid.

A common position on a draft Directive designed to restrict the marketing of certain dangerous substances and preparations, in this case, azo compounds (amendment of Directive 76/769/EEC; co-decision procedure), was formally adopted by the EU Council of Ministers.
Since zinc oxide is not considered to be an activator for sulfonhydrazides, it is not expected that DBZ would produce the same dramatic effects as can be seen when in combination with azo compounds.
Azo compounds are continuously gaining attention in scientific research because of variety of derivatives obtained by the slight modifications of dye intermediate structures [1, 2, 3].
