Albee's operation
Two obsolete surgical procedures developed by Fred Houdlett Albee (1876-1945).
(1) Correction of hip joint ankylosis by removing the femoral head and stripping the acetabular cartilage, which has been replaced by total hip arthrodesis.
(2) Spinal fusion in which tibial bone chips were keyed into the spinous processes rather than the preferable and more stable vertebral body itself. Of historic interest only.Segen's Medical Dictionary. © 2012 Farlex, Inc. All rights reserved.
