Aerobacter liquefaciens

A bacterial name that was first used by Beijerinck in 1900, then later by Grimes and Hennerty in 1931 for a different bacteria. Realising the redundancy, Grimes renamed his bacteria Aerobacter lipolyticus. The Judicial Commission of the International Committee on Nomenclature of Bacteria, rejected Beijerinck’s 1900 bacteria in 1973 and accepted Grimes and Hennerty’s as Aerobacter liquefaciens.

By 1976, DNA-relatedness studies renamed the bacteria as a Serratia and is now known as S liquefaciens.
