2,4-di·ni·tro·phe·nol (DNP, Dnp),

(dī-nī'trō-fē'nol),
N2pH-OH; a toxic dye, chemically related to trinitrophenol (picric acid), used in biochemical studies of oxidative processes where it uncouples oxidative phosphorylation; it is also a metabolic stimulant.
