1. Suffix denoting the more electronegative element in a binary chemical compound; formerly denoted by the qualification -ureted; for example, hydrogen sulfide was sulfureted hydrogen.
2. Suffix in a sugar name indicating substitution for the H of the hemiacetal OH, for example, glycoside.
