Zebra Body A descriptive term for a lysosome containing broad transversely-stacked myelinoid membranes, an ultrastructural finding typical of certain lysosomal storage diseases, found in neurons, Schwann cells, macrophages, smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, pericytes, glomerular epithelial cells, hepatocytes, and other cells. Zebra bodies classically occur in Fabry’s disease, but are seen in Niemann-Pick disease, Landing’s disease, Sandhoff’s disease, mucopolysaccharidoses—e.g., Hurler syndrome—myelinopathy, phenylketonuria, and Tay-Sachs disease Want to thank TFD for its existence?
