antihistamine Any substance that reduces the effect of histamine or blocks histamine receptors, usually the histamine 1 (H1) receptor. Common agents include antazoline sulfate, azelastine hydrochloride, cetirizine, chlorphenamine, emedastine, epinastine hydrochloride, ketotifen, levocabastine, loratadine and olopatadine.
