Yuzpe Regimen
A two-dose treatment with combined ECPs to prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse; the first dose is taken as soon as possible and the second dose is taken 12 hours after the first.

10,11) Promotion of the Yuzpe method became more complicated when the pharmaceutical companies launched a new, lower-dose generation of pills, which meant that the number of pills to be taken to obtain the right dose increased to eight, four as soon as possible and four 12 hours later.
The Yuzpe method (WHO, 1998) involves the provision of two high dose, or four low dose, oral contraceptive tablets (containing levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol) within 72 hours of intercourse, followed by another two tablets 12 hours later.
Emergency contraception (EC) has been used in Chile and many other countries for years in the form of the Yuzpe method (combined oral contraceptives).
