Pausinystalia yohimbe; part used: bark; uses: aphrodisiac, hallucinogen, male erectile complaints, diabetes, orthostatic hypotension; precautions: pregnancy, lactation, children; patients with kidney disease, liver disease, high blood pressure, angina, ulcers (gastric or duodenal), bipolar depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, prostatitis; patient taking alpha-adrenergic–blocker medications, CNS stimulants, MAOIs, phenothiazines, SSRIs, tricylic antidepressants, sympathomimetic medications, tyramine, caffeine; may cause tachycardia, high blood pressure, anxiety, tremors, dysuria, nephrotoxicity. Also called
aphrodien, corynine, johimbe, quebrachine, yohimbehe, yohimbene, yohimbime, or
yohimbine.
