If a drive suddenly loses power, it's often impossible to tell if it finished writing to disk--writes may look complete in the write back cache on the drive, but the data may not make it onto the actual platter.
The controller offers unmatched fault tolerance with Active/Active transparent failover and failback, mirrored write back cache and cache coherency.
In fact, the weakness of the write-back cache is even a relatively well understood problem, and in higher end drive platforms RAID devices and sophisticated storage administrators will default to a policy of prohibiting the use of the SCSI write back cache.
