Etymology: Franz Von Winckel, German gynecologist, 1837-1911

a fatal disease of the newborn caused by colon bacilli entering the stump of the umbilical cord. Characterized by hematuria, jaundice, enlarged spleen, collapse, and convulsions. See also hemoglobinuria.

Winckel's disease [ving´kelz]

a fatal disease of the newborn, with jaundice, hemoglobinuria, bloody urine, hemorrhage, cyanosis, collapse, and convulsions.
