Williams' syndrome

Williams' syndrome [wil´yamz]
a genetic disorder caused by the sporadic deletion of a gene for elastin on chromosome 7; common characteristics include supraventricular aortic stenosis or other cardiovascular defects, a characteristic facial appearance described as “elfin,” mild to severe learning disability, and developmental delay. Information for patients, their families, and other concerned individuals may be obtained from The Williams Syndrome Association, P.O. Box 297, Clawson, MI 48017-0297.
