1. a fungal infection of the surface of chilled meat carcasses caused by Sporotrichum carnis. Appears as white, woolly spots that do no damage, can be wiped away easily but may give the meat a musty smell.
2. artefactual white spots on x-ray films are caused by dirt, specks of barium or iodine or medicines containing them on the animal or on the cassette or by dust or dirt on the screens.
