myxomatosis 1. the development of multiple myxomas. 2. myxomatous degeneration. infectious myxomatosis of rabbits a highly infectious, mosquito and rabbit flea or contact transmitted, generalized disease caused by myxoma virus which is very similar to the rabbit fibroma virus. It is characterized by swelling of the eyelids and a profuse, purulent ocular and nasal discharge, subcutaneous lumps 0.5 to 1 inch in diameter, especially on the head, and swelling of the genitalia.
