The poorly-vascularised inner third of the knee menisci, which receive their blood supply from the genicular arteries; stratification of the meniscus of athletes’ knees into zones helps determine the method of treatment for meniscal injuries; when surgery is indicated, meniscal tears occurring in the white-white zone are less amenable to repair and more to partial resection because of inadequate vascularisation
