Isolation of Vibrio alginolyticus and Vibrio splendidus from aquacultured carpet shell clam (Ruditapes decussatus) larvae associated with mass mortalities.
vulnificus and Vibrio alginolyticus grow readily on standard media that contain sodium chloride (eg, MacConkey agar) and the selective thiosulfate-citrate-bile salts-sucrose medium, and differential diagnosis between these two Vibrio species may be difficult.
Cases of central nervous system and wound infections and osteomyelitis have resulted from injuries exposed to Vibrio alginolyticus in salt water (100,101).
