1. the act or process of turning or changing direction.
2. the situation of an organ or part in relation to an established normal position.
3. in gynecology, misalignment or tilting of the uterus.
4. in obstetrics, the manual turning of the fetus.
5. in opthalmology, rotation of the eyes in the same direction.

bimanual version  version by combined external and internal manipulation.
bipolar version  turning effected by acting upon both poles of the fetus, either by external or combined version.
cephalic version  turning of the fetus so that the head presents.
combined version  bimanual v.
external version  turning effected by outside manipulation.
internal version  turning effected by the hand or fingers inserted through the dilated cervix.
pelvic version  version by manipulation of the breech.
podalic version  conversion of a more unfavorable presentation into a footling presentation.
spontaneous version  one which occurs without aid from any extraneous force.

Version of a fetus performed by external manipulation with both hands.

external version,
an obstetric procedure in which a fetus is turned, usually from a breech to a vertex presentation, by external manipulation through the abdominal wall. Compare version and extraction.

the act of turning; especially the manual turning of the fetus in delivery.
bipolar version turning done by acting upon both poles of the fetus by either external or combined version.
cephalic version turning of the fetus so that the head is the presenting part.
combined version external and internal versions together.

pelvic version version by manipulation of the breech (buttocks) of the fetus.
podalic version conversion of a more unfavorable presentation into a footling presentation.

external version
Obstetrics An active intervention carried out over the abdominal wall in late pregnancy, consisting of gentle rotation of the fetus, with the intent of manually converting an undesirable breech position, to a deliverable cephalic position. See Cesarean section. Cf Internal version.
