Verbesina encelioides a plant of North American origin in the family Asteraceae known to contain toxic amounts of galegine. Death is sudden, often without clinical signs, but there may be a brief period of dyspnea, bloat, mouth-breathing, frothing at the mouth and cyanosis. Necropsy lesions include pulmonary edema and hydrothorax. Called also crown beard. |
