[həbil′itā′shən]
the process of supplying a person with the means to develop maximum independence in activities of daily living through training or treatment.

habilitation [hah-bil″ĭ-ta´shun]
the assisting of a child with achieving developmental skills when impairments have caused delaying or blocking of initial acquisition of the skills. Habilitation can include cognitive, social, fine motor, gross motor, or other skills that contribute to mobility, communication, and performance of activities of daily living and enhance quality of life.

He also employed this interdisciplinary idea in his postdoctoral thesis required for qualification as a university lecturer dedicated to the economic collaboration with developing countries and finally he was awarded the venia legendi for the academic field of business administration.
In 1987 the Universitat Duisburg granted him the venia legendi in Automatic Control Since 1990 he has been Professor of Process Control in the Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering, Universitat Dortmund, Germany.
Hefti received his dental degree and doctorate at the University of Zurich in Switzerland, and the Venia Legendi, with an emphasis on preventive dentistry, at the University of Basel in Switzerland.
