polydactyly /poly·dac·ty·ly/ (-dak´tĭ-le) the presence of supernumerary digits on the hands or feet.
polydactyly [-dak′tilē] Etymology: Gk, polys + daktylos, finger a congenital anomaly characterized by the presence of more than the normal number of fingers or toes. The condition is usually inherited as an autosomal-dominant characteristic and can usually be corrected by surgery shortly after birth. Also called hyperdactyly, polydactylia, polydactylism. polydactyly (pol´ēdak´tilē), n a congenital anomaly characterized by the presence of more than the normal number of fingers or toes. It may be a part of a complex genetic syndrome.
