quartile
[kwôr′təl, kwôr′tīl]
Etymology: L, quartus, fourth
one-fourth of the distribution of scores. The first quartile would be the lowest 25% of scores, the second quartile would represent the 26% to 50% range of scores, and so on.

quartile [kwor´tīl]
any of the three values that divide the range of a probability distribution into four parts of equal probability; the first, second, and third quartiles are the 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles.
