Federal Trade Commission (FTC),

an agency in the executive branch of the U.S. federal government created to promote trade and to prevent practices that restrain free enterprise and competition. In the area of health care the commission successfully challenged the American Medical Association's ban on physician advertising. The FTC held that competition among physicians and the free choice of the consumer were impaired by the antiadvertising policy.
