The mark on the surface of the abdomen that indicates where the umbilical cord was attached to the fetus during gestation. Also called bellybutton, umbilicus.

a problem in young piglets, up to 2 days old. Blood oozes from navel causing severe anemia, frequently death: prefarrowing vitamin C for more than 6 days before farrowing prevents it; called also umbilical hemorrhage.
