Tyzzer's disease a fatal necrotizing hepatitis caused by Clostridium piliforme. Sporadic cases only. Recorded in foals and cats. Signs are severe diarrhea, jaundice and high serum levels of liver enzymes. Probably the commonest disease of gerbils, in which it is usually subclinical, but it can cause an acute disease characterized by death in young or stressed individuals.
